虽然
Meaning
- although; even though (often used correlatively with 可是 or 但是 etc)
How it's used
"Although", and again both halves stay: 虽然很累，但是很开心. English forbids "although…but"; Mandarin expects it. The same shape holds for 不但…而且 (not only…but also).
Example sentence
他虽然穷，却很幸福。
Even though he's poor, he's happy.
